About Tiki Tua Experience

Sharing authentic Māori culture and creating meaningful connections in the heart of Ohinemutu Village

Traditional Māori whare in Ohinemutu Village

Our Heritage

Tiki Tua Experience was founded on the principles of manaakitanga (hospitality) and kaitiakitanga (guardianship), deeply rooted in the traditions of Te Arawa iwi.

As descendants of Whakaue, we carry the responsibility of sharing our ancestral stories and cultural practices with visitors from around the world. Our village of Ohinemutu has been continuously inhabited for over 700 years, making it one of New Zealand's most significant cultural sites.

Every experience we offer is designed to honor our ancestors while creating meaningful connections between our culture and our guests.

Manaakitanga

The art of hospitality, caring for our guests as we would our own whānau (family), ensuring every visitor feels welcomed and valued.

Kaitiakitanga

Our role as guardians of our cultural heritage, protecting and preserving our stories, traditions, and sacred sites for future generations.

Whakakotahi

The spirit of unity and togetherness, bringing people from different cultures together through shared experiences and mutual respect.

Our Mission

"To transform pain into purpose and hate into love through the power of storytelling and cultural connection."

We believe that by sharing our stories - both the beautiful and the painful - we create bridges of understanding between cultures. Our experiences are designed to be transformative, leaving visitors with a deeper appreciation for Māori culture and the universal values that connect us all.

Each day in our village is unique. We might welcome royalty one day and serve our community at a tangi (funeral) the next. This dynamic tapestry of life is what makes Ohinemutu special and what we're honored to share with our guests.
