Being a Guide in Ohinemutu

Embodying Manaakitanga and Kaitiakitanga

A Profound Privilege

History may not repeat itself, but the footprints left by our ancestors guide us as we strive to honor their legacy. As a guide in Ohinemutu, it is a profound privilege to welcome guests from all corners of the globe.

Our mission is to embody manaakitanga (hospitality) and Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) as we embark on this journey through our vibrant village.

Each day is unique; one day we might host royalty, while the next we could be serving our community at a funeral. Life in the village is a dynamic tapestry, ever-evolving and rich with stories.

Te Arawa / Whakaue

As a descendant of our ancestor Whakaue, I carry the responsibility of upholding the mana (honor/prestige) of our people, the tangata whenua (people of the land).

It is essential to bring to life the stories that have often been silenced, transforming pain into purpose and hate into love. Each interaction is a chance to share these narratives and ensure they resonate with those who visit us.
